This environmental initiative isn’t some trendy attempt to paint ourselves green. Solisco was the first Canadian printer to adhere to guidelines from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification/Canadian Standards Association (PEFC/CSA).
The Forest Stewardship Council is a non-profit organization made up of members from 25 countries. Its mission is to ensure good forest management based on strict principles and criteria. To receive FSC accreditation, a company such as a printer must prove that it uses the appropriate processing facilities and monitoring. What’s more, FSC-certified paper is the only paper recognized by the major environmental groups worldwide.
The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification is a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainably managed forests. Approximately 10% of forests around the world are certified sustainable and adhere to certain programmes. Of this percentage, two-thirds have earned PEFC certification. What’s even more impressive is that approximately 60% of these PEFC-certified forests are in Canada.
